The use of new technology in social science libraries ranges from extensive use of CD-ROMs and CD-ROM networks. development of databases and production of CD-ROM products, integration of networked information sources into the library's offerings and creating the institution's presence in the World Wide Web, as well as incorporating other network information resource discovery tools into daily library work. These activities not only entail detailed knowledge of database structures and computer use in the field (computer literacy), but also often lead to becoming networking specialists within the home institution, information brokers and systems designers.
