The education center for engineering and technology was established at the faculty of engineering at Niigata University in spring 2005 so as to elevate the motivation of undergraduate students for learning through making some products. The education center also aims to develop and practise the variety of engineering education programmers based on the new concept of "Kogaku-Ryoku" which is a Japanese coinage originally made by us and means fundamental competence necessary for creating innovative ideas or visible products. For instance, the several subjects, such as multidisciplinary projects similar to PBL, newly developed internship programmers designated "market" and "technology" internships and so on have been open to all undergraduate students at the school of engineering independent of their background. These attempts are designed for the students to have fundamental or compulsory competence for learning deeply about engineering. In this report, the features of these programmers developed in the last three years are mentioned, and critical issues as well as future direction of engineering education are discussed based on the academic records of the students who have taken such programmers.
