Silica dioxide (SiO_2) can be modified by impregnating amine-containing compound to improve CO_2 adsorption capacity. Octadecylamine (ODA) was supported on silica dioxide particles. The amine-modified samples were characterized using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Carbamate ion pair formation on surface of adsorbents was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Reactivity of solid sorbents towards CO_2 was evaluated using isothermal CO_2 adsorption by BET technique. This study shows 25 wt% ODA/SiO_2 can adsorb 2.45 wt% CO_2/adsorbent is slightly higher in adsorbing CO_2 compared to pure SiO_2 which only adsorb 1.85 wt% CO_2/adsorbent.
