It is argued that an analysis of low-x structure functions, using the BFKL formalism modified to account for the running of the coupling, is sensitive to the running at energies far higher than the reach of the experiment. Consequently thresholds for new physics at such scales will affect the quality of the fit of the results of such analysis to data. This could provide a mechanism in which there is evidence for new physics at energy scales way below the threshold for such new physics.
