Experimental education program on humics in the environmentusing Ge-68/Ga-68 under legally defined level as radioactivematerials

Radioisotopes under particular level of radioactivity is not regarded as radioactivesubstances under current regulations.This implies,legally at least,that even students canhandle such weak radioactivity in ordinary laboratory rooms having no special facilities foruse of radioactive materials.In this context,naturally-occurring radioisotopes like 40K anddaughters of parents U and Th in environmental samples are applied for education inradiation and radioactivity.Also,artificially-derived radioactivity like radiocesium in theenvironment has been a demonstrative example for promoting public awareness toenvironmental radioactivity.However,those radioisotopes can be applied for understandingchemistry of very limited number of elements.Use of intentionally-produced radioisotopesis a key to develop modernized and sophisticated programs for education coveringchemistry of whole groups of elements.
