Development of novel photocatalysts is inevitable for realization of clean energygeneration and sustainable society.Here,we report a new type photocatalyst"supramolecularphotocatalyst”.The supramolecular assemblies consisting of a conventional organic dye“rhodamine"or"carbocyanine"with a long alkyl chain exhibited significant hydrogenevolution under irradiation of visible light,although the analogous compounds with short alkylchains exhibited no hydrogen evolution in water.The spectroscopic and microscopic analysesof the rhodamine and carbocyanine derivatives clearly showed aggregation-inducedphotocatalytic activity (AI-PCA) of the organic dyes.In this presentation,we demonstrate theself-assembling properties and hydrogen generation ability of the supramolecularphotocatalysts.
