Understanding correlations between structure and physical properties in materials is a fundamental and important issue to develop material and solid-state sciences. The physical properties of molecular magnetic materials are strongly correlated with Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion around metal ions. Therefore, controlling the JT distortion enables us to modulate the physical properties. Our group previously reported a stable bis(3,5-dichloro-4- pyridyl)(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl radical (bisPyTM) that possesses two pyridyl nitrogen atoms capable of coordinating to metal ions. 1 In this work, we aimed to develop a unique relationship between structure and magnetic properties in one dimensional coordination polymer (1D CP) and prepared [CuII (hfac)2(bisPyTM)]n (Figure 1a) from CuII (hfac)2 (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonato) and bisPyTM.
