Our group has developed a hybrid photocatalyst constructed with a semiconductor and a Ru(II) binuclear complex(RuRu’), which can reduce CO2 to HCOOH by two-step photo excitation (Figure 1)1-4. However, the reported semiconductors in Z-scheme do not have the ability to effectively absorb photons with wavelength longer than 500 nm. In order to utilize >500 nm photons, we applied Ta3N5, which has ca. 600 nm absorption edge, to hybrid photocatalyst.
