Practical food production shows that selenium (Se) -enriched soils may not produce Se-enriched agricultural products, which is due to no significant correlation between soil total Se and plant Se contents. For example, the relationship between the Se content in rice, wheat and potato and the total Se content of soil is poor (Zhang et al., 2012); while soil Se bioavailability was the main factor to determine the Se content of wheat (Zhao et al., 2009). Researchers have explored the analytical methods of soil available Se, but there is no uniform standard agreed upon for analyzing soil available Se (Tolu et al., 2011).
