Selenium (Se), is an essential trace element for many organisms, including humans. The trace element is becoming more and more insufficient in food crops as a result of intensive plant production in many countries (El-Ramady et al., 2014a). Due to both deficiency and toxicity problems worldwide, producing Se biofortified food crops with Se is emerging issue. The production of safe and nutritious foods, including biofortified crops or animals can occur using such supplements as folate, vitamins (A, C, E), pro-vitamin A, carotenoids or some essential elements such as Fe, Zn, I, and Se. Regarding Se, sodium selenite and selenate are generally considered the most suitable fortificants for margarine, table salt, infant foods and sports drinks (Bonsmann andHurrell, 2009). Concerning Se-biofortification of food crops. This strategy has been practiced in some Se-deficient regions by adding inorganic-Se containing fertilizers to soils in several countries such as Finland, the UK, China, Australia and New Zealand (Ba?uelos et al., 2015).
