Degenerative lumbosacral stenosis (DLSS) in dogs has been a well-recognized syndrome since the first descriptions appeared in the late 1970s. Despite this, there remains considerable variation in case definition and optimal methods of diagnosis and treatment, even for specific sub-classifications of this syndrome, have not been determined. Although there has been tremendous progress in imaging of DLSS, mainly because of the availability of cross sectional modalities, it is arguable whether management of this condition has improved during the past 30 years.
