Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Orange over Nitrogen-doped TiO_2 Prepared by Ultrasonic Method

Nitrogen-doped nano-sized titania (N-TiO_2) photocatalysts were prepared by sol-gel process followed by ultrasonication. The photocatalytic decomposition of methyl orange in aqueous solution was used as a probe reaction to estimate their photocatalytic activities. Applying means of XRD, TEM and UV-Vis DRS and XPS, we analyzed the crystallite sizes, the cystal pattern, the optical property of TiO_2 samples. The synthesized N-TiO_2 nanocrystals are catalytically active and absorb well into the visible region up to 600 nm. N-TiO_2 showed high degradation of methyl orange under ultraviolet as well as visible light irradiation since it has small grain, wide dispersion and strong visible-light absorption.
