The yield of Intermediate Cropping Rice (ICR) is important for the food safety in Hubei province. However, frequent meteorological disasters constitute serious threats to the production of ICR in the region. Using the yield data from 1990 to 2009, the study made an assessment on meteorological disaster risks for ICR in Hubei province by the method of small sample information diffusion technology. The results indicate: low, moderate and high risk losses of meteorological disasters for ICR are mostly widespread in impact every 5-10 years, while severe risk losses are generally mostly widespread in impact every twenty years. In terms of comprehensive risks, low, high and serious risk areas cover an area of 33.5%, 20.0% and 46.47% respectively of the study area. In terms of regional distribution, the most severe meteorological disasters with the highest risks are in the North, Northwestern and Jianghan Plain of Hubei province, followed by the Eastern, Southwestern and Northeastern Hubei.
