An algorithm for detecting overlapping and multilayer communities in complex networks

In this paper, we define the modularity for multilayer communities, and present a new algorithm which can detect both the overlapping and multilayer communities in the networks simultaneously. The method first selects some nodes as cores, and then extends them to form communities. Experimental results on several networks demonstrate that our algorithm can achieve higher quality results than other methods.
