Seven fish passes have to be upgraded on the River Meuse in Belgium, upstream of Namur. In order to optimize and to validate the new fish pass layout, a 1:5 scale model of the Rivière Weir fish pass was built. Taking benefit of this existing model, a tentative experimental campaign was initiated with living salmonid fishes. Juvenile Atlantic salmon and trout were introduced in the model downstream of the fish pass entrance. Their attempts to swim the fish pass and trajectories in the basins were observed and recorded using both pit-tags and antennas, and video camera.
