MICROBIAL INTERFERENCE AND POTENTIAL CONTROL IN THE PRODUCTION OF EUROPEAN EEL Anguilla anguilla LARVAE

Recent research has significantly improved our knowledge and capabilities in the field of in vitro production of yolk sac larvae from European eel (Anguilla anguilla). The rearing of larvae suffers, however, from high larval mortalities and enhancement of water quality in the rearing systems might be crucial for larval survival. By applying antibiotic and disinfection treatments as a research tool, it was possible to determine the extent of microbial interference in the production of good quality larvae.
