The various animal or plant sources as alternative to fish meal (FM) has been the focus of aquaculture for many years. One ofthe alternative ingredients has poultry by-product meal (PBM) and has been evaluated in various fish species (Yang et al, 2006; Ahmad, 2008). FM is a good source of essential amino and fatty acids, whereas PBM vary widely in quality and has deficient in one or more of them (Subhadra et al., 2006). Therefore, Ahlgren et al. (1994) indicated that the extensive replacement offishmeal in freshwater fish diets could adversely affect on the fatty acid requirements or quality ofthe fish flesh. It is also increasingly important to ensure that the diet is adequately enriched with fish oil or other sources of linoleic acid or linolenicacid or both of these fatty acids to production of good quality fish flesh (Shields, 2001). The objective of this study was to investigate fatty acid composition of Nile tilapia fry when fishmeal is replaced by PBM as an alternative protein source.
