We have synthesized the Cu doped sponge‐like porus ZnO nanoparticles by simple chemical route. Structural and optical properties of ZnO:Cu nanoparticles were studied by X‐Ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Photoluminescence (PL). X‐ray diffraction study indicates a decrease in the lattice parameter after the Cu doping but the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO was not changed. Photoluminescence measurements taken on both doped and undoped samples show that, in the Cu‐doped ZnO nanostructures, the band‐edge UV emission and the broad green emission are decreased as we increased the doping concentration. This is probably due the substitution of Zn~(2+) ions as Cu~(2+) ions.
