PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR DEAF CHILDREN OVINGDEAN HALL SCHOOL BURWOOD THEATRE

Ovingdean Hall School is a special residential school that caters for pupils with hearing impairment who can access the curriculum through the auditory/aural approach. As a result pupils have very significant language and communication delay. Many of the pupils have additional needs including autistic spectrum disorders and moderate learning difficulties. A small number have emotional and social difficulties. Due to the nature of the special needs of the pupils, it is not appropriate to compare their academic achievements with national expectations. A recent Ofsted report recognized the schools personal care and development as "Outstanding". The purpose of the refurbishment was to improve its facilities for music and drama as well as providing improved accommodation for school assemblies, parents meetings and as a community resource for the village of Ovingdean. The school engaged architects Chilton Waters & Stutchbury to prepare a scheme as a partnership project and sought advice on meeting the new Part E of building regulations.
