Prediction of rainfall is of prime interest for climatologists. It is of immense importance for weather forecasting and weather monitoring too. In addition to this knowledge of rainfall and factors causing rainfall are necessary for aviation and satellite communication. Undoubtedly understanding the mechanism producing rain will improve crop production. In this paper an attempt has been made to understand the occurrence of rainfall phenomena w. r. t. meteorological elements, viz. temperature (DBT), pressure (P), dew point temperature (DPT) and freezing level height (HFL) at surface and at different heights. Attention has been given to find out the correlation of high rainfall with these elements, if any. Effort has been made to find out oscillations in rainfall activity and other meteorological elements over large number of years. 8 year rainfall and radiosonde data over Trivandrum supplied by Indian Meteorological Department have been used for the study.
