With the increasing deployment of wireless networks their performance analysis becomes extremely important. In this paper we investigate the performance of 802.11 Basic Service Set under finite load conditions on the error-prone channel. An analytical model based on discrete time Markov chain is proposed. Closed form expressions for the model's stationary distribution and essential performance characteristics are derived. While the model can accommodate any packet arrival process we approximate packet interarrival times by the two-parameter Pareto distribution. Packet size distribution is assumed to be an Accurate Imix. An interface queue of every wireless station is modelled as a G/G/1 queue. The obtained analytical results are verified through extensive simulation
