Multi-photon microscopy is now well established as a biological tool for deep and live tissue imaging. As the technique is based upon the non-linear absorption of two, or more, photons the excitation volume is limited in three dimensions. Under the correct conditions this can significantly reduce photo-toxic effects within the sample and photobleaching, if present, is limited to the focal plane.
