Promoting Creative Thinking and Problem Solving Through Robotic Summer Camp

In this paper we present our experience in organizing a robotic summer camp for pupils from 9 to 15 years old. During the camp, participants had to solve a number of robot construction and programming tasks, designed in a way that encouraged them to develop their creative thinking and problem solving skills, like creating a robot from a pre-defined set of LEGO pieces or building a faster paper plane launcher by using a gear transmission system. The results of the conducted survey showed that, even though pupils presented a solid level of creativity and problem solving skills, most of them found the lessons that fostered creative thinking and problem solving skills to be quite challenging.
