A Study on Impact of College Students' Mobile Phone Addictions on Their Self-identities

The paper selected sixty-six college students nationwide and collected basic information on their self-identities and mobile phone addictions. It then analyzed the impact of mobile phone addictions on college students' self-identities through quantitative studies. It found that mobile phone addiction affected college students' self-identities from five perspectives, including personal identity, collective identity, relational identity, social identity, and special identity. Specifically speaking, the father's cultural level had a positive impact on college students' self-identities; gender had an insignificant impact on college students' self-identities; the age of the first-time contacts of mobile phones was negatively correlated to college students' self-identities. Mobile phone media has widened and deepened the scope of socializing and learning for contemporary college students. Correspondingly, it improves and changes college students' self-identities. Contemporary college students not only have used mobile phone media for a long time but started using it at an early age. Besides, the mobile phone reflects contemporary college students' second-person roles and the right to privacy. College students must learn the accurate way to use mobile phones and enhance their ability in appreciation. Besides, the psychological consultation provided by universities is equally important. Universities must provide regular psychological consultation to students, helping them to get away from excessive mobile phone addiction, and stay healthy mentally and physically.
