Relations of Total Electricity Consumption to Climate Change in Nanjing

Climate change and urbanization are the main causes of regional climate change.Based on the measured meteorological data of Nanjing's daily average temperature and total electricity consumption in recent years,the method of degree days is used to estimate the demand for heating in winter and refrigeration in summer due to climate change.Moreover,we analyze the quantitative relationship between the degree days of heating/cooling and social electricity load requirements.The results reveal the heating degree days in winter increase first and then decrease,and the cooling degree days in summer decrease first and then increase during the period of 2011-2017.The air conditioning days in summer is most closely related to the total electricity consumption and the coefficient of correlation is above 0.7.While,the linear correlation between the number of air conditioning days and the total electricity consumption in the winter season is not significant.The correlation coefficient is only 0.2.It's obviously the change of degree days is closely related to the temperature change.As the typical representative place of the hot summer and cold winter regions,the average temperature of Nanjing continues to rise in recent years.This also confirms that more electricity is used at higher temperatures in summer due to refrigeration and air conditioning.Correspondingly,electricity consumption via space heating is decreased due to higher temperature in winner.
