The assessment of the fatigue strength and service life of commercial vehicle drivelines in the new areas of application is a recurring challenge for product development departments. Especially for commercial vehicles, due to their high diversity, the boundary conditions (e.g. legislation and road conditions) and the target usage play an important part. This paper explains the steps taken at ZF Friedrichshafen AG in order to solve this challenge. At first, the region of interest needs to be analyzed and a set of represented routes has to be found. To reduce the cost and timing issues, instead of classical, now virtual measurement campaigns are used to simulate the new load cycles. Afterwards, damage calculations are executed for the main components. Considering the estimated customer usage, load distributions will be created with the help of Monte-Carlo-Simulations. At the end, the results regarding to the new application can be compared to the original one and the boundary conditions for a product approval can be defined.
