People spend a third of their life sleeping. It is essential for a good health and indispensable for the good functioning of the human body to maximize its physical and mental capacity. In the last years there was a significant increase in sleep disorders that have a big impact on people's life quality. One of these disorders is sleep apnea, which is often not diagnosed and is common between children and adults too. Apnea is characterized by periods of breathing interruption. The most common form of sleep apnea, called obstructive sleep apnea (OS A), is caused by partial or complete obstruction of the patient's upper airways. Normally, at each inspiration, the pressure in the upper airways decreases under atmospheric pressure, creating a tendency for collapse of the upper airways. The main aim of this paper is to design a Lab VIEW based system for monitoring and detecting an episode of sleep apnea based on biomedical signals taken from different sensors.
