Braverman and His Theory of Disequilibrium Economics

The Teacher. I can unreservedly call Emmanuel Braverman my Teacher with the capital T. He shaped not only my academic career, my research interests and teaching but many other important things as well. There are many people in my life to whom I owe the debt of gratitude, people who I looked up to and continue to look up to. However, my most important teacher-student relationship remains with Emmanuel Braverman who did not reach his 46th birthday, dying on April 26, 1977. By the time we met, rather by chance, in the Spring of 1970, Braverman was 39. He was already a Doctor of Science (a prestigious academic rank in the Soviet Union and current Russia) and was a world-renowned expert in the area of image recognition and artificial intelligence. He worked in one of the best research institutions of his time - The Institute of Control Sciences. However, I knew none of this at the time.
