Oncology Refresher: Diagnostic and Treatment Advances in Feline Oncology

Although exact numbers are difficult to track, cancer is a leading cause of death for cats. Some estimates place the number of cats diagnosed with cancer annually at nearly six million. Remaining up-to-date on the latest information and approaches todiagnosing and treating feline cancer is important to your daily practice. Internists diagnose a large number of feline oncology cases and often initiate client discussions regarding treatment options. Keeping abreast of the most recent developments in this area is important for presenting the latest in case management options to clients. This session will highlight key updates on advanced feline cancer diagnostics, including PARR (PCR for antigen receptor rearrangement) and flow cytometry, and treatments, including chemotherapy (oral and injectable), immunotherapy and supportive/quality of life enhancements. Focus areas will include lymphoma, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), injection site sarcoma and mast cell neoplasia.
