Charitable giving has decreased in the United States (Charities Aid Foundation 2015). In light of traditional methods of donations declining, nonprofits are turning to alternative techniques to maintain consistent charitable support. This has resulted in many nonprofit organizations blurring the lines between for-profit and nonprofit to mixed reactions from consumers, practitioners, and scholars (Porter and Kramer 2011). One such tactic is eliciting donations at a retail outlet of a nonprofit organization, such as the gift shop of a museum or a coffee shop in a hospital, known as a point of sale donation (Cause Marketing Forum 2013).
