摘要

As high-profile projects go, the Royal Opera House is certainly up in the upper echelons of iconic buildings within the UK and Europe. This project was an opportunity for the Opera House to yet further boast its extravagance and style by refurbishing the Linbury Theatre and the respective main foyer, otherwise known as the "Open-Up Project". With a vast array of performance spaces, auditoria and practice rooms, it is required that noise transmission throughout the building is carefully considered and sensitively treated. This paper explains the complexities and obstacles that arose, and the subsequent design and installation techniques adopted by Mason UK and partnering contractors that were key in being able to deliver the quality final product that can be seen today. These developed construction methods, some of which are of a unique nature, are an example of how it is possible to overcome complex acoustic isolation scenarios on future projects.
