The majority of weather obscurants are a result of water or ice particulates in the atmosphere, which cause both backscattering and forward-scattering of light. backscattering in the transmit path causes signal attenuation and non-linear noise. backscattering in the return path causes signal attenuation. forward-scattering in the transmit path causes signal attenuation. forward-scattering in the return path causes signal attenuation and blooming. Single photon sensitivity allows the GeigerCruizer LIDAR to see low reflectivity targets at distances greater than 100 meters, even in inclement weather conditions. Advanced, dynamic, line-of-sight noise-filtering algorithms are able to filter backscatter without affecting point cloud quality.
