Breakout Session 16: Safety Assurance of AD

Which level of Safety do Automated Vehicles need to achieve? (1) Safety is the main motivation in the U.S., EU, Jp, G to introduce automated driving; (2) We need to draw comparisons in order to find the right level: => compare to introduction of Airbags, Vaccination, Aviation (much research involved). (3) Process is important: society needs to be included; (4) Need for differentiation between Level 2, testing Level 3+4, deployment of Level 3+4: => build public confidence + manage safety risk + create transparency; => simplify the problem first, allow innovation to take place. (5) Diffentiate between time horizons: in medium term expectation to be significantly better than manual driving.
