The paper discusses reliability problem of variable cross-section structural components with uncertain parameters of normal distribution, including the sensitivity analysis and robust optimal design. It also studies the change rule of reliability index and reliability of the cross-section. Based on the reliability sensitivity and reliability robust design, the fault sensitivity of the components can be predicted and identified, and reliability assessment can be verified. It provides a reliability-based sensitivity analysis and robust optimal design method for engineering structural design. And it also presents a method of reliability-based sensitivity identification and robust optimal design of variable cross-section wedge beam. In addition, the method for reliability-based sensitivity and robust design of variable cross-section components with the certain reliability index is proposed. Through numerical analysis, as application examples, the graph of reliability index, reliability and reliability sensitivity of variable cross-section structural components are obtained and discussed.
