Collaborative product development project selection from supply chain integration

Innovation is an immensely important activity for increasing a firm's competitiveness and performance so that it can contribute to the national economy. The open innovation philosophy has been employed as one of the most attractive topics in the last decades corresponding to the knowledge-based economy. This highlights collaborative product development with supply chain integration to be executed in the business context with various forces. The objectives of this study were to identify the critical collaboration factors and current issues for project selection in collaborative product development with supply chain integration in technology-based industrial innovation, which is a new dimension missing in the existing literature. In order to control the characteristics of technology, the petrochemical industry was explored, and extensive literature reviews were conducted in order to identify critical factors and to generate a conceptual framework. Semi-structured interviews with a purposive sampling of experts were conducted in order to identify the key factors to be considered for project selection as well as the key issues to be avoided. The force field analysis concept was applied to the project selection tunnel model to propose a new construct in the collaborative product development context for original theory building. The study suggests validating the model in order to strengthen theory development and practical implications.
