A study of ability in TOEIC test taking related to English speaking for communication of TNI students

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the ability in TOEIC test taking of first year undergraduate students at Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology, 2) to study the ability in English speaking for communication of undergraduate students at TNI, and 3) to study correlation between the ability in TOEIC test taking and English speaking for communication of TNI students. The subjects were 70 first year undergraduate students in second semester of 2016 academic year derived through simple random sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of English language ability test and English speaking for communication test. The data were statistically analyzed by frequency, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's correlation (r). The results of the study were as follows: 1) the ability's mean scores in TOEIC test taking of first year undergraduate students were 440 (out of 990), 2) the ability's mean scores in English speaking for communication of undergraduate students were 8.8 (out of 10), and 3) correlation between the ability in TOEIC test taking and the ability in English speaking for communication of TNI students was in the same way and there were statistically significant relations at 0.01 level.
