A New Approach in Blended Teaching Combining LMS, MOOCs, and Piazza for University Courses

Although Internet promises to overcome barriers, itself represents a challenge when it is applied to the educational field, since at this early stage, yet there is a lack of clear precedents on how to use technological benefits in education. A punctual case is the vast number of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) that have appeared, forcing to rise a question: What is the better methodology to deploy a MOOC? The answer is given from different standpoints, but blended teaching seems to be a promissory solution. We propose here a methodological scheme based on blended teaching to implement a MOOC deployed with an OpenEdx platform. An initial application of the methodology over the undergraduate course “physics of electricity and magnetism” serves to illustrate the benefits of a partial transition from traditional teaching model in the short time. Our experience shows that this methodology is promissory and should be further developed.
