Bentonite is one mineral that has the ability as an adsorbent. Modifications to increase the adsorption capacity have been investigated. This study aims to modify Al-pillared bentonite with poly diallyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (PDDA) for adsorption of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). Al-pillared bentonite was synthesized by adding the Al polycation and N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant. According to XRD result, the dspacing values of Na bentonite and Al-pillared bentonite were of 10.48 and 13.61 A, respectively. Furthermore, Alpillared bentonite was modified by using PDDA. In addition, we compared the adsorption activity of Al-pillared bentonite and Al-pillared bentonite/PDDA for SDBS adsorption which were found to be 89.58 and 99.30 %, respectively. The adsorption ability of Al-pillared bentonite/PDDA was tested by the concentration variation and contact time of SDBS. The optimum condition was acquired at a SDBS concentration of 1.0 × 10~(-3) M for 45 min with the SDBS adsorption percentage of 99.30 %.
