Temperature Distribution Study for Malaysia Broiler House

Temperature control in broiler house is one of a crucial factor to make the broilers grow healthy. Utilization of heat source such as light bulb to provide heat and maintain optimum temperature in the broiler house becomes popular among the farmers in Malaysia. However, some heat sources consume enormous energy where some bulbs produce more light than heat. Maintaining the heat within the broiler house remains a challenge as some heat sources produces heat that burn the chicks. Thus, energy usage of the bulb is one of the biggest concerns of the local broiler farmers because it increases the operational cost of broiler house. This paper presents the study of temperature distribution of the common types of bulbs available in Malaysia that are used in farming. The height of the bulb installed in the barn is studied as well. The experimental model mimicking broiler house was built (10 ft ×10 ft) with 8 temperature sensors placed at different positions inside the experimental model. Four common light bulbs used by Malaysia farmers have been tested and the temperature distribution of all tested bulbs are discussed. Among these four bulbs, the Philips 150 W infrared bulb covers wider area with consistent temperature within the experimental model.
