RESECTION OF LARGE LIVER TUMORS

The most common indications for resection of large liver masses in humans are primary liver malignancies (hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma) and liver metastasis (most commonly from a colon or rectal cancer primary tumor). Most patients with large hepatocellular carcinoma are not candidates for major hepatectomy due to underlying cirrhosis.
