The proposed scheme is aimed at making vehicle driving safer by preventing accidents occurring because of drunken driving. The driver's condition in real time is monitored and a scheme is proposed for the detection of Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) using alcohol detector connected to ARDUINO-based controller. The system senses the level of BAC and if that level crosses a permissible limit, the vehicle ignition system will fail to start until the level of BAC decreases to its permissible limits. Until the driver is unfit for driving, ignition of car will not take place. Thus, such a smart alcohol sensor embedded in the car ignition system can prevent such accidents occurring because of drunken driving. The system implemented here is a simple yet cost-effective method for such an automobile ignition controller.
