First-of-its-kind urea granulation exhaust scrubbing system to achieve ultra-low dust emission in operation

The urea granulation unit is a source of ammonia vapour and urea dust emissions. Statutory requirements for a reduction of the emission streams and reduced stack plume visibility are getting stricter. This paper presents the experiences made with trial tests and the design and successful start-up of a world-scale urea plant in the US. For the first time with a large, commercial-scale urea granulation plant, a new kind of scrubbing system based on the leading Uhde Fertilizer Technology process was applied.
