Due to the dangerous of environmental effect caused by consuming conventional plastic produced from petrochemicals, the study in synthesizing starch-based bioplastic is attracted extensive interest. In this study, jackfruit seed (Artocarpus heterophyllus) was applied as starch source in preparing bioplastic film, while 1.4-butanediol and Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) 1000 were employed as plasticizer to achieve better mechanical properties for this bioplastic. The mechanical properties, morphological structure, and crystallinity of bioplastic films were characterized by using tensile tester, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), respectively. The result shows that the addition of 1.4-butanediol with concentration of 0.5% can generate an optimum result in mechanical properties of bioplastic, especially for its elongation. In addition, SEM micrographs and XRD analysis showed that bioplastic which plasticized by 1.4-butanediol (0.5% v/v) had an uniform appearance while its crystallinity is decreased.
