Investigations on rotor stator rub have always been of great significance for researches on rotating machineries. The most common model for rub investigation is friction model until recently; where some studies are carried out using contact mechanics based interaction. This technique ensures correct enforcement of constraint on the contacting bodies and presents a more realistic modelling approach. Although, an exact physical situation for the contact interaction would be a combination of partial sticking and partial sliding, a preferably assumed situation is pure sliding of rotor over the stator during its interaction. The present work ensures the condition of stick is met while the rotor stator is in contact. Synchronous and sub synchronous motion of order 2 and 3 are observed. The amplitudes of contact reaction forces are on higher side with sticking considered. The whirl amplitudes are reduced with additional constraints in tangential direction.
