Climate Change Leadership: An Update from Alberta (PPT)

In November 2015, the Government of Alberta (GoA) announced its Climate Leadership Plan (CLP) with two key goals for 2030: 30% of power will come from renewables. Coal-fired generation will be phased out. AESO supported the CLP by: Developing the Renewable Electricity Program (REP) Advising government on system reliability aspects of phasing out the coal fleet. In November 2016, GoA approved the REP and AESO's recommendation to implement a capacity market to ensure reliability during the transition to a greener grid.
