This study aiming at Nanjing Metro Line 10 combines the advantage of simulation work in software with filed tests and comes up with reasonable suggestions for the operation of tunnel exhaust fans. The characteristics of piston wind in underground tunnels and shafts were simulated, and the wind velocity and temperature distributions were drawn, when exhaust fans were turned on and off respectively at different operational stages using the subway environmental simulation (SES) program. In consideration of the air quality in tunnel and train compartments, analysis of CO2 concentration under different conditions of heat exhaust fans was added. Accordingly, the tunnel temperature and wind velocity at initial stage were tested at typical stations. The simulated and tested results were basically in line and came into similar conclusion.
