Surveillance of Emerging Infectious Diseases

Epidemiological models can inform us on improving patient outcome and situational awareness provided we incorporate the real-world complexity into such systems. There is extensive uncharacterized clinical drug resistance, and we need better diagnostic systems to be able assess it quantitatively in near real-time to guide mitigation. Rapid, point of care diagnostics can be extremely valuable in improving outcomes, and providing directed treatment.
