ZOONOTIC ABORTION IN SMALL RUMINANTS FOR VETERINARY TECHNICIANS

Abortion is a major cause of economic and production loss in small ruminant flocks and herds. Although random, noninfectious causes of abortion do occur, it is not uncommon to have abortion outbreaks (or storms) due to infectious causes. The main focus of this seminar will be the more common infectious causes of abortion in small ruminants that are also zoonotic. We will discuss how veterinary technicians can provide key steps to protect the producers, farm workers, laboratory staff and veterinary personnel that may come into contact with these infectious agents.
