Filtration requirements for applications like High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) in diesel fuel systems have been challenging not only filter media manufacturers but the capability of installed test equipment. ISO cleanliness targets have pressed desired particle filtration at 4um(c) into the range of 99.5%-99.9% efficiency or beta ratio ss4(c) =200-1000. Previously, 98.7% efficiency or ssx=75 was considered an absolute rating for these filters and sufficient when 'X' was about 5-10μm(c). Standard methods and test facilities capable of measuring to this smallest 4um(c) size were adequate then, but now are largely unable to differentiate performance with the newest media offered at these higher performance levels.
