Carbonaceous material (organics and black carbon (BC)) is one of the most important components of aerosols and is ubiquitous in the various atmospheric environments (e.g., Kanakidou et al. 2005). Especially, sources and secondary processes of carbonaceous aerosols are of great importance for considering their climatic and environmental impacts in the real atmosphere. In October 2003, Tokyo Metropolitan Government (and surrounding three prefectures) started regulating the on-road diesel emissions (Kondo et al., 2012). So far, additional regulations were (in 2006 and 2011) implemented to regulate off-road diesel emissions and to strengthen the levels of the regulations. It is expected that characteristics of carbonaceous aerosols in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area (TMA) have significantly varied since the emission regulations.
